Trainees Supported by Trained Workplace Instructors
This year, eight international trainees have worked at Outokummun Metalli while completing their basic qualification in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology at Riveria’s Outokumpu campus. The trainees have taken part in work placements of varying lengths throughout the year.
As the number of international trainees increased, we wanted to strengthen the support provided to them. In 2024, eight Outokummun Metalli employees and two production supervisors completed a workplace instructor training programme delivered by Karelia University of Applied Sciences. They continued with additional training in autumn 2025 to enhance their capabilities in guiding international students. Participants represented all production departments, and the training focused especially on personnel who have previously been involved in trainee onboarding.
The training equips employers with tools to improve language and cultural awareness at the workplace and to support smooth collaboration with international talent. Instructors gain practical methods for guiding students, while the students benefit from skilled supervision, progress in their studies, and integrate naturally into the work community.
For Outokummun Metalli, offering trainee placements and investing in workplace instructor training is a concrete step in developing future talent and fostering a diverse work community. We warmly thank all this year’s trainees for their valuable contribution.
