I am Satu Hottinen, and I have worked as a Financial Administration Assistant at Outokummun Metalli since 1988. During this time, the company has grown from a small workshop into a manufacturing plant and group of companies, and I’ve been part of every stage of this development. My role involves financial and HR tasks within the group, including payroll and payment transactions. This work requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to schedules.
Digital development has revolutionezed work tasks
I began at Outokummun Metalli as an Office Secretary after completing high school and a business diploma. My tasks have evolved alongside the company and technological advancements: initially, everything was done manually, and I worked with a typewriter. Today, digital systems and online platforms are integral to the job. Back when I started, even occupational health services were not mandatory.
The predominantly male environment of the metal industry suits me well, and collaboration is effective. In HR, I believe personal interaction is essential, which is why I prefer being present in the office. Outokummun Metalli offers a supportive community and comprehensive employee benefits that promote well-being and skill development. I have never felt the need to seek opportunities elsewhere. In fact, Outokummun Metalli employs also the second generation of our family, as my son Toni works here as an assembly technician.
Staying up-to-date through continuous learning
Continuous development has been key to my career, with skills growing through experience. In 2011, when the company became a group, my responsibilities expanded to tasks for the subsidiary Koneosapalvelu. The company has supported my professional development, which has been essential in keeping up with regulatory and system changes. With the benefit of experience, I would advise others to maintain a positive attitude, stay flexible, and remember that asking questions is the best way to learn.
