Heikki Paasu, Product and Development Manager
I am Heikki Paasu, Product and Development Manager at Outokummun Metalli since 2011. My responsibilities include maintaining up-to-date product structures for harvester heads and grapples, managing product changes and pricing, planning production processes for new products, and enhancing product manufacturability. Additionally, I oversee production technology development and lead a team. I joined Outokummun Metalli in 2008, previously serving as a Methods Engineer and Product Manager. My work is engaging and requires a broad perspective and knowledge of metal industry production technologies.
From the world of music to a technology expert
Initially, I studied to become a music pedagogue and even worked in the music field for a while. However, my interest in technology led me to pursue a different educational and career path, leaving music as a cherished hobby. I graduated as an automation engineer in 2006 and later completed a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2012 while working. Before joining Outokummun Metalli, I gained experience in various industrial engineering roles.
Fascinating robotic welding
Working at Outokummun Metalli has presented challenging and unique projects. One of the most memorable was developing a robotic welding cell – a major investment that improved production efficiency and quality. In development projects, technical skills are essential, but perseverance and patience are equally critical. These qualities, which I honed through years of playing musical instruments, have proven invaluable.
Looking ahead, I maintain a forward-thinking attitude and remain eager to contribute to advancing technology and system development within our company, a leader in its field. Exploring the latest solutions and stepping out of my comfort zone keeps me energized and motivated in my work.
